Many Olim don’t know what actually happens at the airport, so we created this Aliyah Airport Guide to walk you through the process from the moment you step off the plane.

This guide walks you through the process from the moment you step off the plane until you walk out the doors as an official new immigrant.

Step-by-Step Aliyah Airport Guide

There’s no special lane or separate exit for Olim. You walk off the plane, follow the signs, and go through passport control as usual.

If you came with Nefesh B’Nefesh on a group flight, you may have volunteers guiding you — but solo Olim follow the normal airport flow.

Ministry of Aliyah and Integration Office

As you follow this Aliyah Airport Guide, remember that after passport control and duty-free, you’re directed to the Aliyah & Absorption Office (Misrad HaAliyah V’HaKlita branch - משרד העליה והקליטה) located inside Terminal 3. This office is a permanent branch of the Ministry at the airport and is open every day for Olim arrivals except Shabbat.

Identity & Status Are Confirmed

A staff member checks:

  1. Your passport

  2. Your Aliyah approval status

  3. Your visa (if applicable)

  4. Any documents you were told to bring

This is where your official immigrant status becomes active.

Receive Your Initial Documents

At the airport, most Olim receive:

  • Teudat Oleh (immigrant certificate)

  • A temporary Teudat Zehut number

  • Health coverage (Kupat Cholim) registration

  • A form for opening a bank account

  • Details about your Sal Klita (absorption) payments

These documents let you start everything else — opening a bank account, getting health insurance, accessing government benefits, and scheduling future appointments.

First Klita (Absorption) Payment

If you’re eligible for Sal Klita, the first payment usually begins automatically within a short time after arrival.

The office explains when each payment will come and how the schedule works.

Tip: Click here to read more about Sal Klita.

Transport Arrangements

Many Olim are entitled to free transportation from the airport to their first address in Israel.

If it applies to you, the staff will help arrange it.

Collect Your Bags and Head Out

After the paperwork is done, you head to baggage claim, grab your suitcases, and walk out into the arrivals hall — officially as an Oleh Chadash - עולה חדש.

Final Tip

Keep all the documents you receive in a safe place.

They will be needed for banks, government offices, and health insurance.
