New Olim pay a reduced purchase tax of 50% instead of the standard rate of up to 100% on new cars. This benefit must be used within 3 years of Aliyah and applies to new cars or Passport to Passport purchases from another Oleh.

How long can I drive in Israel on my foreign license?

New Olim can drive on their foreign license for one year from their date of entry into Israel. After that driving on a foreign license is illegal and voids your car insurance. Start the conversion process in Month 3 — not Month 11.

Do I need to take a test to convert my foreign driver's license?

It depends on how long you held your license before Aliyah. With 5 or more years you qualify for expedited conversion with no tests. With 2 to 5 years you need a short Control Test only. Under 2 years requires both a theory test and a Control Test.
